Alyssa grew up in the southeast river community, running whitewater and chasing wild trout in small streams around Asheville, North Carolina. Transitioning to Boone, North Carolina in 2015 to enroll at Appalachian State University, she actively pursued involvement in her local fly fishing community, serving her junior year as the App State Fly Fishing Club President and sitting on the board of the High Country Trout Unlimited Chapter while guiding float trips on the Watauga and South Holston tailwaters in Eastern Tennessee as well as hosting overnight floats in southwest Alaska on the Kanektok River. After a decade of guiding in the southeast, she now guides in Montana, Texas and Idaho through local guide partners and hosts trips in various destination fisheries through her company, Equitable Angling. Fly fishing has given her the opportunity to travel and pursue a variety of fish- smallmouth, trout, musky, tarpon, redfish, snook, bonefish and permit; and she enjoys the challenge of tying new flies for each species.
Alyssa has developed a deep appreciation for river ecology and takes special interest in migratory birds; you can often find her boat stocked with a pair of binoculars and a good bottle of whiskey.
- Home water: Alyssa currently guides on the Devils & Pecos river in Texas, the Flathead watershed in Northern Montana, and Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho. 2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? Amplitude MPX Textured and Sonar Titan in a S3/S5 are my go to trout lines. We utilize a variety of tactics year round that require long, stealthy leaders. MPX allows me to turn over long droppers with ease while still achieving a delicate presentation. The Sonar Titan’s triple density design puts my streamers in the target zone quicker and keeps it there longer even during high CFS flows. 3. Where would you most like to fish? I’ve recently been pursuing more saltwater species, enjoying the challenge of sightfishing and the Seychelles is high on the bucket list.
