My hometown will forever be Round Rock, Texas.
The creeks and rivers of the Texas Hill Country are most definitely my home waters.  I couldn’t be more in love with the fish that call them home as well.  I cut my fly fishing teeth on Brushy Creek which is conveniently located right down the street from Living Waters Fly Fishing.
That being said, I have spent plenty of time chasing Rio Grande Cutthroat in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico as well, so in many ways those small, high country creeks are my home away from home!
  1. Home water? Brushy Creek
  2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? Mastery ART – This may be the best creek taper ever made!  From the shortest bow and arrow cast to lengthy dry fly presentations, the ART is still my favorite line for limber fly rods in tight quarters.  The ART taper is slightly over weighted which greatly aids in loading the rod in a limited space, without inhibiting rod responsiveness.   If you are looking for the perfect line to match your favorite fiberglass rod, your search is over!
  3. Mastery Bass Bug – Bass fishing is a way of life in Texas and this line is more than ready for the task at hand.  The softer core helps the line perform in the cooler months, while the coating still has the ability to handle the heat of a Texas summer!  The Bass Bug taper turns over the largest of flies with ease and does so without sacrificing accuracy.  I would consider it a must have for larger rivers and lakes alike.
  4. Amplitude Grand Slam – The Grand Slam has been a favorite of mine for many years.  The saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” does not apply to this line.  The Grand Slam was already one of the best bass/salt crossover lines I had ever cast but SA took it to another level entirely with the addition of AST+ in the Amplitude series.  This line is my first choice for flats of any kind and it also does a splendid job handling large bass flies in the hottest weather Texas can dish out!
  5. Where would you most like to fish?
My bucket list includes Mongolia, Slovenia, Iceland, Tree River, Australia, and many more.  However, taking some time off to do a native bass and native trout slam is something that I day dream about more than I probably should.
  6. Two Truths and a Lie.
Truth:  I opened Living Waters Fly Fishing at 21 years of age and started guiding at 19.
  7. Truth: I actually started tying flies before I ever learned to fly fish.
  8. Lie: Since I own a fly shop, I must fish all the time.
