For as long as he can remember, fishing has been a part of Jin’s life.  Some of his fondest childhood memories are of fishing with his older brother in Georgia, but his true passion for fishing was ignited when he moved to Colorado and a high school friend put a fly rod in his hand.  With the transition from passion to obsession, he worked his way from a buyer for an outdoor retailer, to guiding in Colorado and Wyoming, to his current work as general manager of St. Peter’s Fly Shop.  All of these paths have provided him a spectrum of fishing adventures from steelheading in B.C.  to permit fishing in Cuba.  He draws on all these experiences to inspire his work as a board member of our trade association, AFFTA.

  1. Home Water:  Much of my early fly fishing trips were on the Cache la Poudre River.  Mother Poudre was there at the beginning of my fly journey and continues to provide me with lessons and enjoyment.
  2.  What 2-3 lines you use the most and why:  Much of my trout fishing these days is done with micro spey rods and casting the Spey Lite Integrated Lines.  This line’s mix of textures, tapers, and audible cues are brilliantly combined for traditional swinging or variable stripping techniques.  The Amplitude Infinity Smooth lines are my single hand go-to lines for a variety of wade or float fishing.
  3. Where would you like to fish most:  I’ve been dying to make it down to Tierra del Fuego and chase the giant sea run browns.  Feel like I should go to the “End of the World” before humanity delivers it.
  4. Two Truths and a Lie:  John Gierach watched me run myself over with a raft at the boat ramp before our float trip.  I almost drowned under a ladder after an unknown Lahontan Cutthroat pulled me into Pyramid Lake.  I can’t hear the sounds of someone brushing their teeth, it makes my skin crawl.
