  1. Home water? Born and raised in Grayling, MI. Guide on the upper Au Sable and Manistee Rivers.
  2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? MPX – This is my go-to line for dry flies. Great in tight quarters as well as long distance presentations. Durable coating that holds up through the whole season. Streamer Xpress – Big water streamer line for long distance. Durable, quick loading, and low memory. Magnum Glow – Started using this for my mouse trips. I love being ale to see the line at night. It helps me better instruct my clients from the back of the boat on placement, mending, and casting. It has greatly improved my client’s night time success. I also like the oh’s and ah’s that you get when you charge it with the flash light.
  3. Where would you most like to fish?
I’d really like to fish for bluefin Tuna. There’s something about the blitz and the speed. I think it’d be one hell of a tug-of-war.
  4. Two Truths and a Lie.
-Matt finds the biggest reward in guiding to be when a client walks away from a float trip with a new passion for fly fishing – because that means that one more person will help protect our natural resources and carry on the future of our sport. When he’s not guiding, Matt his wife are chasing whitetail deer, cross country skiing, and gardening – and generally enjoying their peaceful chalet in Crawford County just miles from the holy waters of the Au Sable river. Matt’s idea of a great breakfast is oatmeal with alfalfa sprouts and plain greek yogurt.
