Rafael Costa was born in Brazil and raised in the jungle. When he was a few months old, his father, an agronomist engineer, moved to the jungle chasing the dream of getting rich with the rubber trees. Well, it never happened …but Rafael had the chance to grow up swimming in rivers full of fish and around an untouched nature. For some reason, even today, far from everything and everyone, inside the jungle he feels at home. With Over 500 arapaima under his belt he is still humble about the fact that the jungle puzzle changes Every single day. 43 years old proud Father of a beautiful girl Rafael works his photography to share with everyone how beautiful the jungle is. and also to prove to his daughter he is not a big lier.
Home water? I’m home anywhere in the jungle. I spend 6 months Every year deep in the amazon. I guess I can call home water to me the Iriri river inside the Menkragnotire (kayapo) reserve and the Mamiraua lake land of the giant Arapaima
- What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why?
1- Sonar Titan Big water taper 500 grains – The 100lbs core on that line changed the game for us with the 300 pounds plus arapaima super smooth and long casts all day.
2- Mastery Tropical jungle Titan- That line it’s perfect for the hot Sunny days here in the jungle and works really well with streamers and poppers.
3- Sonar Titan tropical jungle clear tip – For the big peacock bass that line is what you need. The clear sinking tip allows you to fish with shorter leader and be Much more acured on your cast and that can definitely makes the difference on a hot day when the peacocks are hiding under shades of trees and logs
- Where would you most like to fish?
The Kendjam lodge on the Iriri river is just hard to beat. The place has been almost untouched for so long, also the crystal clear warm water with just so many species Around, for me makes for the best jungle experience you can ask for. Also the Dorado in Bolivia.
- Two Truths and a Lie.
Ohh yeah… trout is the coolest, and you are a great caster Sir. No… I really mean that Sir.
