I was born and raised in Mulhouse France in the beautiful region Alsace, northeast of France, 20 km from both German and Swiss borders, thus the region is called « the 3 frontiers region »
The region Alsace follows the Rhin river making the German border. Basically, both sides of the Rhine River are the same land, we even share some city names and dialect.
I live in Illkirch-Graffenstaden close to Strabourg (capital of Europe at the German border) for 15 years.
I’m graduated in math, physics & bio then learned biology & veterinary medicine for 2 years.
I’ve been working for top class labs for 5 years (veterinary, research, food), then worked as a bacteriologist and fish pathologist for the French reference lab until making the switch to the pharmaceutical industry to avoid working in Paris.
I actually work for Eli Lilly & co in Fegersheim where I’m in charge of qualification for lab equipment (parenteral, FDA approved etc…).
I fish for as long as I can remember. I started on the local pond and by about 8 made my first steps in fly-fishing. I’m a self-taught person and mostly learned reading magazines my father used to bring back from his business trips.
In 2009 I made a pause in my career to go back to the French guiding school in Ornans (city of interest for each well taught French fly fisher and at that time, a Mecca of fly-fishing).
The program is 8 months practical learning of fishing techniques (all techniques), professionalism, environment and customer psychology, plus 2 months stage/guiding.
I obtained the professional certification in 2010.
Following this great experience, I’ve prepared the French federal fly-casting instructor program and obtained the certification « Moniteur pêche mouche et lancer » from the sports ministry in 2012.
In the same time, I also prepared the EFFA casting instructor program, got the certification in 2011 and made it international with the former IFFF (now FFI) CI certification in 2012.
I also own a 1st (of 3) degree casting instructor certification from the Suola Italiana di pesca Mosca (SIM – Italian style) obtained at Castel Di Sangro (south of Italy, lost in the mountains).
I fish local in Alsace & Black Forest (Schwartzwald-Germany) as we’ve got a lot of different kind of waters, and the big east of France.
I also love to travel and meet new people, cultures and discover fishing techniques. Over the years, I fished Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, England, Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Russia.
I love to sight fish with dries or unweighted patterns but I also fish with nymphs, wet flies and streamers.
I fish rivers, canals, ponds and lakes where I target Brown trout, Grayling, Chub, Barbel, Carp, Asp, Pike, Zander, Perch, …
I also really like to back-pack for several days on alpine lakes and live wild, 12 days in autonomy is my personal best.
I’ve done some guiding in my early years, but today I concentrate on teaching people how to be better fishermen and casters. I host numerous demos and courses in Europe.
I’m lucky to have a close collaboration with Fly Fish Europe. Working with FFE has allowed me to perform technical demos on fly shows, open doors or for clubs.
My demos are so done that spectators don’t just watch the show but can return home with tips, advices, and enough ideas to go further improve their techniques.
I must say that this concept is very well welcomed from all the feedback I get from past demos.
I’m yearly about 15-20 days out demonstrating or teaching in courses. I’m also spending around 10-15 days per year spooling and testing/comparing lines/leaders in preparation of line workshops and customer care. Of course, I’m always trying to carve out time to go fishing as well.
