I’ve been in love with fishing since I was five years old. I spent my summers hand lining with a hook and sea worm for flounder off the docks of Gloucester harbor. There was a pond behind my house that I later stocked with trout by pedaling 5 miles each way to Chebacco Lake carrying my pole and bucket, transferring one to two trout at a time. At 16 I borrowed a bamboo fly rod from a friend’s dad and walked to the pond; casting for hours and hours, never letting the fly touch the water, I thought the trout were supposed to leap up into the air to eat the fly. I cast until the sun set that night. I’ve been casting ever since.
Today, my wife and I own River Summit Outfitters, a fly fishing and adventure lodge near the banks of the Madison River in Ennis, Montana. I’m also a photographer and filmmaker passionate about conservation and using my creativity to help protect natural resources, wildlife and wild lands.
- Home water? The Madison River. It’s nestled in our valley surrounded by the Gravelly, Madison and Tobacco Root mountains. The perfect setting for horseback, hiking, hunting and of course fishing. It is truly is an iconic Montana river and the quintessential Rocky Mountain fly fishing experience.
- What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? I really dig the Amplitude Bass Bug for throwing long bombs and turning over big Chubbies in that Montana wind. Conversely, I love the Amplitude Smooth Trout for its ability to lay over a tiny spinner on glass smooth water.
- Where would you most like to fish? Well…I’ve never fished for Taimen…
- Two Truths and a Lie.
I was once on stage with the Grateful Dead.I’ve been in the slammer 3 times.I’d rather wake up in a tent than in a 5 star hotel.
