My name is Todd Towle and I am a registered Maine guide located in Kingfield, Maine. I began my career guiding white water river trips and eventually evolved into an independent fly fishing guide/outfitter. Growing up in Maine I majored in outdoor education on a local level, as in every parent telling their kids the same thing “Be back before dark”. Eventually, I grew up (sorta) and traveled to fish the Rocky Mountain west, California, Utah, and Alaska. One day I woke up and had a washing machine, an incredibly understanding wife, and two kids that continue to amaze me.
Working as a guide and photographer has given me a deep appreciation of the outdoor world and its inhabitants. For me, it comes down to one thing. Relationships. It’s everything.
- Home water? The Kennebec and Dead River. Along with too numerous to count small streams and still waters.
- What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why?
Amplitude Smooth Trout. I work on some pretty techy dry fly water throughout the season and the aquatic residents won’t put up with a lot of bad pitches. Having a line that can present accurately at a variety of distances while still being supple enough for crucial line control mends is paramount. The color design works well in taking a bit of guesswork out of judging distance. This line checks all those boxes.Mastery Double Taper. Exploring and guiding thin blue lines with a three-weight fiberglass rod is as simplistic and pure as it gets. The double taper allows short, delicate casts when it counts. It’ll also hunt a little further than you think when the opportunity arises.
- Two Truths and a Lie.
I caught my first Atlantic salmon on my fourth cast, I can completely understand what manufacturing 0.0055″ tippet means, I always start conversations with new clients with either religion or politics.
