Hello, my name is Ron Ratliff, and I am a south Louisiana native where I am a redfish guide. I have spent time guiding in Alaska as well, but my heart is surrounded by saltwater. I discovered fly fishing in the mountains of Colorado as a young boy on one of the many camping trips my mother took me on. So, I took it home and here I am today, guiding the beautiful marshes of southern Louisiana. I’ve been guiding fulltime for 10 years, targeting giant redfish, sneaky black drum, and snobby sheepshead. My absolute favorite fish to target is Jack Crevalle. It has been an amazing journey and cannot wait to see what’s around the next bend!!

  1. Home water? South Louisiana
  2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why?

Two of my favorites are amplitude smooth taper Redfish and Amplitude Grand Slam for most of my fishing. They are absolutely great lines for the shorter quick cast needed here when we ambush these giant redfish.

Sonar Titan full intermediate is my favorite line to target the strong yellow fined Jacks, when long fast cast are needed.

Infinity- I like using this line for spooky trout that I can’t get that close to you can bomb it out there with ease and this line still offers the capabilities of an easy mend with a lot of line out to deliver that perfect presentation.
  3. Two Truths and a Lie.

I was a roughneck on drilling rigs for 14 years.

    I absolutely love the government.

I taught my Pitbull to play frisbee.
