Fishing in the Land of Enchantment
Filmed in the mid-1960’s, this video actually has two segments to it. The first takes place in southern Colorado and the second in northern New Mexico. Each is focused on family camping and fly fishing for trout. One can speculate that it was filmed to promote fly fishing as a family activity.
The first segment is on the Pine River in southern Colorado with a family from a local ranch and is hosted by outdoor writer, Byron Darymple. The second is a mountain stream in New Mexico with SA co-founder Leon Martuch and his son. The fish catching scenes appear to be mostly staged and the slow-motion images of jumping trout that are inserted look fake by today’s standards.
Considering this was done nearly 60 years ago, we shouldn’t be too critical. Instead, we can view this as another look at time past when things were a lot simpler.
