I’m Austin Brown and I am a flyfishing guide out of Kalispell, Montana. I was born in Southwest Florida where I grew up fly fishing the salt flats for Snook, Tarpon, and Redfish. This is where my passion for fishing began, and where I first realized I wanted to become a fishing guide. Years later, I moved to Montana with my wife and pursued my dream. I have been a full-timefishing guide since 2020, primarily focusing on guiding flyfishing trips and spending the winters guiding ice fishing. I am thrilled to teach and share my passion with others and feel I am truly living the dream!
- Home water? My home waters consist of the Flathead, Clark Fork, Blackfoot, and Missouri rivers.
- What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? Amplitude Textured MPX and Amplitude Textured Anadro are both absolute must-haves in my boat. The Amplitude Textured Anadro is key for some of those long and heavy indicator rigs used in the early season. This overweighted line allows you to cast the distance with ease. The Amplitude Textured MPX is my go-to during summer months because of its versatility. Whether you are throwing big dry flies or dry droppers, this line seems to turn over multiple types of rigs effortlessly. In addition, the durability of both of these lines allows them to float longer and mend with little effort.
- Where would you most like to fish? I would love to go to Costa Rica and fish for Rooster Fish. I have always loved the thrill of Permit, Tarpon, and Bonefish so I would love to cross the Rooster Fish off my bucket list next!
- Two Truths and a Lie.
• The first fish I caught on fly was a Snook• When I was 5, I was diagnosed with Tourette’s• I had never seen snow until I moved to Montana
