I’m Isaiah Smith, born and raised in Bonne Terre, Missouri, where my love for fishing began at a young age chasing bass, catfish, and panfish. After playing college football in Colorado, that passion was reignited while spending time on the Colorado River. Today, I live in New Castle, Colorado, where I guide fly fishing trips on both the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers. In addition to guiding in Colorado, I’m in the process of starting to guide redfish trips in Southeast Louisiana, expanding my passion to the saltwater side of the sport. I also guide for Los Locos Mag Bay, chasing big fish in one of the most unique fisheries in the world. There’s nothing more rewarding to me than sharing the water with others and teaching the art of fly fishing, the joy it brings me is unmatched.
- Home water? The lower Colorado River and Roaring Fork River
- What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? The three Scientific Anglers lines I rely on most are the Sonar Titan Triple Density WF-8-S (Sink 3/5/7) for fishing large streamers at depth, the Amplitude Textured Anadro WF-5-F for nymphing multi-fly rigs under an indicator (also a great line for fishing deeper hopper dropper set ups) and the Amplitude Smooth Trout WF-5-F for delicate dry fly presentations.
- Where would you most like to fish? It’s tough to pick just one dream destination, but if I had to choose, I’d say Gabon in Central Africa, chasing giant tarpon
- Two Truths and a Lie. I’ve guided fly fishing trips in both fresh and saltwater. I didn’t start fly fishing until I was 24 years old. Joan Wulff was my casting instructor.
