Fly Fishing has been the center of JT Van Zandt’s life since 1991. A passionate and patient guide who’s sole mission is to share the beauty of the resource with his clients. When you’re fishing with a guide, the toughest days are often the most rewarding simply because you’re working together as a team. The opportunities can come at any moment so staying focused is important but relaxing  and having fun is the point of it all.

JT, based out of Rockport, Texas, ties his own patterns and supplies the finest fly tackle available insuring a top notch angler experience. You need only to step aboard the boat, have a seat and let the beauty of the Texas coast reveal itself before you.

  1. Home Water? Rockport, Texas
  2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why? Grand Slam, to load the rod at short distance quickly, Infinity taper for smooth strokes, elegant form for medium to longer finesse shots, new Titan GT line for GT’s Marlin and other larger species.
  3. What was the watershed moment when you knew you wanted to make your living fishing? When I simply could not take another day working a job and not being on the water learning.
  4. If you could spend one day on the water with anyone, who would it be? There are so many friends and clients I love to fish with, but Iprefer to go out by myself when possible
  5. If you could give one piece of angling advice to a younger version of yourself, what would it be? More patience, less anger
  6. What’s in the cooler? Ice blocks and yeti jugs with ice water for clients.
  7. What are you doing when you’re not fishing. Boat maintenance, family time, preparations for fishing locally or traveling. Lots of typical life stuff we all have to do. Watching my kids play baseball or just hanging out with the family.
  8. Where would you most like to fish? I have travelled extensively, but my favorite place is my fishery because of what I understand about it.
  9. Stealth or bright lines? Depends on my mood. I don’t think it matters a lot to a capable caster. The exception I have come to believe is clear lines for permit.
  10. Two Truths and a Lie. Life is amazing! Everything is one. You get a second chance at life
  11. Craziest experience on the water? The fact that people pay me to take them fishing. I have to pinch myself everyday. I love it so much!
