Skylar grew up between some of Michigan’s most well-known fly fishing rivers and Florida’s gulf coast, but fully began diving into her fishing addiction around small mountain streams in Arizona. While living in Arizona, she hand-built a teardrop trailer that she traveled the country in, and spent most of her early 20’s exploring rivers in the West. After spending a winter camping and fishing out of a backpack through Patagonia, she returned to Montana to begin guiding. She spent her summers rowing rivers between Montana and Wyoming, and winters guiding in Chilean Patagonia. In 2017, she acquired her captain’s license and began guiding in Alaska where she and her husband were married and continued to return to for the next 7 summers. After their long season of guiding, they would spend their winters traveling  or beating up a Jon boat looking for redfish in Florida. In 2024 Skylar and her husband decided to take their years of experience in Alaska and build their own lodge. They spent the entire summer flying out materials and building cabins themselves at a remote location within Katmai National Park. They are looking forward to welcoming their first guests next summer while they finish building the lodge.

  1. Home water? My home water are the 10,000 Islands and the upper Everglades National Park.
  2. What 2-3 lines do you use the most and why?   Grand Slam Textured hands down. I feel like the Grand Slam fits nearly every rod manufacturer in the stated weight. It loads extremely well, and the texture lets you fish in water that may not be super clean and not be worrying about cleaning your line all the time. I really like the Tropical Jungle Titan Textured a lot as well. It REALLY loads your rod well, minimizing false cast. I like to teach my customers to take no more than two back cast. Both of these lines help with that very well.
  3. Two Truths and a Lie.
Snook is my favorite fish. Smallmouth Bass and Redfish are tied for second. Tarpon is number 27…
