Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper December 6, 2022 – Posted in: Ambassadors, Instruction – Tags: fishing, fly fishing, fly line, flyfish, flyline
Scientific Anglers Ambassador Blane Chocklett guides and fishes for a wide assortment of species. Smallmouth bass are one of his all-time favorite fish. The Amplitude Smooth Titan Long Taper was originally designed with smallmouth in mind, but has shown to be a great line for a number of situations. Overall head length is a bit over 40 feet. With a short front taper and extended rear taper, the Titan Long offers superior turnover with excellent line control. Built two sizes heavy (use the weight for your rod), it easily handles weighted streamers like Clousers as well as surface poppers, too.
The Amplitude Smooth Titan Long is quick-loading, but also shoots extremely well for distance. It can be fished both wading and from a boat. Color transitions help spot the running line to head transition for enhanced line control. AST Plus and all the Amplitude Smooth technologies make this a great, long-lasting, floating line to fish large, air-resistant flies for smallmouth, trout, and a variety of other species.
The Amplitude Smooth series of lines are, simply put, the highest-performance smooth fly lines in the world. With up to five times less drag and eight times the durability of traditional lines, this will change the way you look at fly line performance.

Why is the Titan Long Smooth line rated for a 5wt fly rod when it has a head weight of a 7wt rod at185 grains? Even though the lines description says to stay with the designated rod weight I don’t know of any 5 wt rods that will easily handle a 7wt line very well. I love the line but it feels like it over loads my 5wt Douglas Sky G . Should I purchase a 6wt fly rod?

1- How long is the front taper of the 5wt Amplitude Titan Long Smooth and the 6wt Amplitude Smooth MPX?
2- Also, doesn’t a 5wt SA Amplitude Titan Long Smooth at 185 grains or standard 7wt line weight, overload a medium fast 9′ 5wt fly rod?
Thanks for your help!

Would the 5wt SA Amplitude Titan Long Smooth at 185 grains or the 6wt Amplitude MPX Smooth at 175 grains be better for casting a #6 or medium sized popping bug with my Douglas Sky G 9′ 5wt fly rod?
Thanks.

I fish for smallmouth bass on the James and Shenandoah Rivers in Virginia from April through October. Should I be using the Titan Long Smooth line or the Bass Bug line?
What are the temperature ranges that these two lines are designed for?
